Grateful to them

They marched on into the hot blazing sun with only one solitude goal in their head. To rescue the people that fell victims to the raging war between the two countries. However and whatever ways necessary, so will it to get the job done. With these in mind, each platoon kept an onlooker close by for enemies that lie in wait for a moment to take them down by surprise. Each step they took was only step towards closer towards eminent death.Who knows how many land mines lay across the trodden path. It had taken many lives before and it is still craves for more. Some resort to more desperate means such as home made bombs just to kill as many soldiers as they can before being shot to death. In this solemn eyes, mercy had left their very soul until they can no longer be called human.

The first sign of civilization lay a few meters ahead. It was deserted but one can still sense signs of life in these barren town. The first two soldiers dashed towards the empty buildings to check for any survivors that might still be left behind.Human carcasses lay everywhere like they were trash. It was the scene of a definite massacre . The soldiers broke down the doors one by one and checked. Clenching their guns tightly, they were ready for any surprise that lie in store. They fingers itching to pull the trigger as the appalling sight begin to set in fears. Yet, they are soldiers and they were trained to deal with the other side of humanity. One by one, each soldier stepped out of buildings to report back to their superior of their findings. None of the news fared well as each only brings messages of death and casualties, bring the death toll to a higher rate.

The number of deaths reported have already been skyrocketing for the past few years. The weather brings little comfort as they were stuck in the middle of the desert .Convoys bring only the necessary equipment and food that does not even compare to the likes of the people living in the comforts of their home.Photos of loved ones lay across the wall in the hostels of men that served their country. They were even willing to put themselves on line for the glory and pride of the country. The hopes of the soldier dwindled when the last few came empty-handed.Just then, a sliver of life rekindled the expectations of the men. A soldier came running and in his hand was what seemed to be a bundle of cloth and fabric. When he came close enough for all to see, what they saw was what they were living every day to see. He carried a girl no more than 10 years in his arms. Her name was Amira and she became the adopted daughter of a US citizen couple.Throughout her years of living, she had never forgotten the soldiers that came to her aid and never will. She was grateful to them with every fiber of her being.

This is just a story to show the contributions of the men and women that had given up everything to serve their countries. Even though we have hopes of achieving world peace, it will very well be unlikely to end wars soon. I just had the sudden spur to just write a story to contribute or at least a sign of tribute to the soldiers and the amount that they have sacrifice for our comfort. They are people that saves lives.
